Whangarei
fishing report
April 3, 2026

Whangarei snapper fishing report: inner harbour anchovies, Bream Bay shallows, yellowfin tuna on kaburas and offshore action at the Hen and Chicks. Lure tips from Captain Nik Key.
The inner harbour's still firing on anchovies; soft baits in orange doing the damage around Snake Bank. Bream Bay fish are right in the shallows, pushed up against the beach by bait schools. Offshore at the Chicks, there's solid biomass but the sharks are taxing anything decent. April and May are shaping up nicely; last year brought yellowfin crashing the party while snapper fishing. Get out there on the light changes and look for the birds.
