Fishing in full spring mode with rapid catches of up to 140 fish in an hour, a rise in barracouta and gurnard, and promising signs for kingfish and game fishing as water temperatures approach 18 degrees.
Fishing is currently in full spring mode, with trips yielding impressive catches, the best being 140 fish in just 1 hour.
We've encountered a significant number of barracouta, sometimes behaving unusually like kahawai on the surface.
When snapper fishing slows, there's been a notable increase in large gurnard catches, occasionally two at a time.
Spiny dogfish appear sporadically, often in groups.
Kingfish are also being caught more frequently, likely due to the abundance of mackerel, which bodes well for the upcoming game fishing season with water temperatures nearing 18 degrees. Our most successful fishing has been in depths of 45-55 meters, regardless of location, as long as fish are detected on the sounder.
The weather forecast looks promising for the coming week.
