Bay of Islands
fishing report
October 23, 2020

At this time the water is still not up around that magic temperature number, and although there are some fish starting to move in, it’s going to be a few more weeks before the snapper are in full spawn mode.
As far as fishing methods that are working best for us, straylining has been great, but with the sea breeze and tidal movements it’s been hard to get the conditions to always line up favourably.
Best bet at the moment, is straight out in the middle under the bait schools.
There are good kingfish and snapper both underneath, and on the outskirts of the bait sign.
Mechanical jigging can get the kings fired up on occasion, and slow jigs like the Catch kaburas and tungsten micro jigs are doing the damage on the snapper we are finding.
Fishing will only get better as we move closer to Christmas, and we will keep you posted when it all goes crazy as it usually does in the gorgeous Bay of Islands.
Cheers
Darren
